Your TEF was built in the 1st half of 1953. Hiawatha may be able to get more precise. There should be some numbers by the transmission dip stick. Take a look at the photo at the bottom of this link. viewtopic.php?f=46&t=3465&p=24802&hilit=transmission+serial#p24802

Righto Swallow , it took a while but I have a date for you .

Your TEF with serial number 323407
and engine number SA 14663E

left the production line of the Banner Lane Ferguson Works at Coventry during the day shift of Wednesday 25th March 1953 . Interestingly it was a special order that was factory fitted with 6 x 15 front wheels and a vertical exhaust.

The following is pure conjecture
I would hazard a guess that this one was down to Grunt's ancestor Great uncle Reg Grunt aka the Horror from Hull . He once stole a pair of 19'' wheels smuggling them out of the works in his baitbox . Once home they were fitted to his goat cart , Colin the goat was well trained and would drag great uncle Reg back home from pub each Friday night . The 19'' wheels allowed a great turn of speed , so fast it scared the local Vicar's wife , hence the name Hull Horror .
Poor Reg had a bad end ,dying from diesel fume asphyxiation passed out behind a bus while Colin attempted to mate with a shop dummy outside a local pet shop .
