TEF20 Work In Progress

Post by TEF20IRL » Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:31 pm

Thought I'd post a few photo's of what I'm doing and see what pointer I can get along the way.

As I said before, this was never meant to be a concours type restoration, just a clean-up/refurb of a tractor that has been in the family for 20 years and has both worked and been a source of enjoyment in that time.

The tractor itself it wasn't in bad condition, just a bit tired looking. Mechanically it's ok, the engine is good, good oil pressure, easy to start (decompression lever was gone when we got it), a little smokey these days but it had been lying idle for a year or 4 so this hasn't helped. Tyres are perished so will be replaced but they will be last, part worn rears and new fronts are all that I will justify.

So far the tractor has been partially stripped, cleaned, painted,
Dash fully removed and sanded back to bare metal before painting
All throttle linkages cleaned and painted
recon injectors
new rear crank seal
cleaned and roughened clutch
broken crank pulley bolt welded and refitted
radiator unclogged
new thermostat
tappets reset
new rocker gasket
inlet cleaned
throttle body cleaned
new manifold gaskets
new hoses
fuel lines cleaned and blown out
ki-gass repaired
fully rewired - yes i only had a roll of red cable in the tool box the night I decided to wire it....
new front axle pin & bush

Anyway, the photos

It’s looking good. Is you auxiliary tank on upside down?

Yeah it seems to have been converted to act as the tank for the ki gass at some point in the past so kept it that way.

Fuel goes direct from tank to filter now, will buy a fuel pump and fit it before it's finished but it runs fine for now.

It’s coming on nicely. Does the oil pressure drop much from 80psi, or is the gauge stuck there!

The 80psi is cold start up with 20w50. Drops back to 20-40psi when hot but I'll probably be draining again and replacing with 15w30.

Put in 20w50 because it was a little smokey but a couple of short runs has cleared its lungs. Was most likely just oil coming down the valve stems while it was sitting idle for the few years, rinsed the exhaust with petrol too. No smoke now which is good
